Tunes Up For New Season
Boca
Raton, Florida- The Florida Intergenerational Orchestra
of America (FLIOA)
will start their new season of performances and rehearsals at
Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 22094 Lyons Road, Boca Raton, at
the corner of Lyons and Palmetto Park Road on Thursday,
September 15 and September 22nd.
Our new phone number for further information is
561-482-8206. On
those nights the Orchestra will host an Open House and
Registration in the O’Shea Auditorium on the campus of the
church. Musicians of
all ages (the orchestra currently ranges in age from nine to
ninety-one years) are invited to bring their instruments and
join us for an evening of meeting new friends and making great
music. No auditions
are required to join the Orchestra.
Everyone is welcomed.
THIS SEASON THE ORCHESTRA ESPECIALLY NEEDS STRING
PLAYERS, VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO AND BASS.
The FLIOA’s mission is to bridge the
generations with music and performance through mentorship. Our wonderful mix of
amateurs, professionals, beginners, and experts—young and
old—encourages, nurtures and promotes closer relationships
between the generations. Both
the full symphony and the chamber orchestra are in need of
more musicians. To enhance the success of the
Orchestra’s mission, we are excited to announce a
COLLABORATION WITH THE VOLEN CENTER.
This season several of the Orchestra’s
performances will be held at The Volen Center, 1515 West
Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton 33486 including the season’s
opening concert to be held on November 4th at 7:00
P.M. as the featured event for the Center’s Alzheimer
Awareness Week. Three
additional concerts will be held at their facility on Sunday,
December 18th, February 26th, and April
29th, all at 2 P.M.
We encourage you to join us on
September 15th and/or September 22nd as
the first step in becoming a member of the FLIOA.
All rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7 to
9 P.M. Any additional
questions should be directed to Lorraine Marks, founder/conductor
at 561-482-8206 or strings4all@aol.com.
Founder and conductor, Lorraine Marks,
uses music as a universal language. The idea of this orchestra
blossomed after Lorraine gave her father a cello and lessons
to enable him to cope with the loss of his wife, Lorraine’s
mother. She also
reflected back to her early childhood experience of having the
opportunity to play the viola with her teacher in his quartet
comprised of retired musicians.
They became her mentors in the field of music
performance and education. Ms.
Marks is also the founder of The New Jersey Intergenerational
Orchestra, which has won numerous awards and recognition in
the media including CBS, NBC and several national magazines
including Family Circle. Her
orchestra also performed at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Individually, she has received awards for her work and
performances, including the 2006 Woman of Distinction in the
Arts Soroptimist International Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach Award, as well as
recognition from The United Nations Committee on Aging.
Ms. Marks has 20 years of teaching experience and
education in music therapy. She
is also available as a speaker to community organizations on
the topic “Healthy Aging Through Music.”
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to
become a part of something really special.
Please visit our website at flioa.org for further

The FLIOA is a non-profit 501c(3)
organization that bridges the generations with music.
