Lorraine Marks has been an orchestra conductor, music therapist and educator for the
past twenty years. "I look forward to working with music students of all agesand being a part of enriching their music education as well as the community.” Ms. Marks is also a guest conductor and adjudicator for student and professional orchestras. She is the founder of the world renowned New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra and the Palm Beach County Florida Intergenerational Orchestra of America.
The FLIOA project was recently chosen to be presented at the White House Forum on Ageing at the Kravis Center. So much interest has been generated by the orchestra project that she and the orchestra
have been featured in the news throughout the country. Lorraine Marks has received much
recognition for founding the NJIO and FLIOA. She was a recipient of the New Jersey Monthly Pride Award and was recognized by the Courier News as “People Who Make A Difference in the Arts”. She also received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition
from the U.S. Congress, a State of New Jersey Senate Citation and a Service
Award from the American Heart Association. In addition, Lorraine has spoken to
service groups including the AARP, the Rotary Club, the Kiwanis Club, College
Women’s Club, British Women’s Club, Pine Crest School Parents Association,
conferences held by non-profit arts administrators as well as Educators
Conventions and Arts in Ageing Conferences.
Ms Marks was featured in American Profile Magazine as a "Hometown Hero”. The NJIO was also the subject of a book, "Grand Partners", by Dr. Linda Winston, a Social Anthropologist. The orchestra was given a spread in Family Circle Magazine for the October 1999 issue. Lorraine has made public service announcements for "Intergenerational”
programs for UPN Channel 9 News and radio station WQXR NYC for their Millennium celebration. She was featured on national television with the orchestra on the CBS Morning show, "Windows
On America", and NBC "Four Stories" and recently had an article in the April 2206 issue of Boca Magazine as well as the AARP Bulletin. She was also featured on the CBS
Weekend News. The orchestra was filmed at Lincoln Center for “Sunday This Morning” with Charles Osgood.
Lorraine Marks has performed for organizations such as the United Nations for their "Global Forum on Ageing ” in Madrid, Spain, and
addressed the World conference on the topic of “Healthy Aging Through Music”.
In 2003 she addressed the United Nations and conducted the orchestra for the International
Day of Older Persons. She has also performed for the Japan Global Forum for
their Beijing +5 Conference, "Generations United National Conference" on the
Capitol Steps in Washington D.C., Lincoln Center Plaza Fountain Concert Series,
NJ Non-profit Homes for the Aged Conference, American Heart Association, the Special Wishes Foundation, and the Kessler Institute For Rehabilitation.
A lecture–slide presentation on the Birth of an Orchestra and "Healthy Aging Through Music" is available to be presented by Ms. Marks. Lorraine
has an active professional career as a freelance violist and conductor. She has
performed with her own string quartet throughout the metropolitan area. She
performs in Florida with the New Philharmonic of Boca Raton, the Sunrise Pops
Orchestra, Lyric Orchestra of Highland Beach and the Hallendale Pops Orchestra
Lorraine is a graduate of Montclair State University with a BA in music
education and music therapy. She is a member of the American String Teachers
Association, American Symphony Orchestra League, Alliance of Arts Educators,
Florida Orchestra Association, Florida MENC, and the Education Committee for
Centre Kids located at Mizner Park. Lorraine currently resides in Boca Raton,
Florida.
