r. Palinsky’s story of his return to his instrument is typical of many of the members of the orchestra who came to rediscover the joys of their instrument years after putting it away. “Junior High School was my start in music-with the bass. I played in high school and joined the college orchestra for a few weeks. I then realized that I didn't have time for music. I sold my bass and went on with my life. I taught high school Physics for 21 years and worked in insurance claims for another 22 years. When I was getting ready to retire I realized what I had left behind and bought a bass and started playing it again (45 years after having put it down). I'm back and love it--as a matter of fact, I'm now taking cello lessons.
